Band Update #4

April 13, 2020

I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing spring break staycation.  As you probably have read from Mr. Maugel, from here on out grades count.  Be sure to complete the assigned tasks each M, W, F.  Something new to our routine is that assignments will be due the same day they are assigned.  Assignments will continue to be listed on the band website under REMOTE LEARNING at the top.  The pages have a password to protect the student message board.  The password for all pages is northwood.  You can also gain access to the assignments through the NWHS remote learning Powerpoint links.

Please be sure to post daily questions in the comments of the lesson.  This will help us keep moving forward and minimize the chance of anyone falling behind.  Please be sure all missing and late assignments from prior to March 18 are completed ASAP.  These items will be turning to zeros.

As we start to look at auditions for fall, first up will be drum major.  DM info will be out shortly.  Students please email Mr. Criss if you are interested in receiving DM training info for tryouts.  Do this TODAY.

Next up percussion and colorguard.

Round 3 will be incoming winds.  Like last year, we would like to hear incoming flute, clarinet, sax, trumpet, horn, low brass play and march.  This will help with part assignment and placement.  8th graders will receive basic marching info via video in May.

From Dan Slaven—

As you may recall, there is a NorthWood Bands Parent Meeting scheduled for Thursday, April 16 at 7pm.
Rather than postponing or cancelling the meeting entirely, we would like to get a little creative; and do this meeting online, via a website video conferencing option, called Zoom.  Many schools and organizations in the area have been using this service at this time, in response to the “social distancing” guidelines in place.  Many of your students have probably utilized this for their schoolwork already.

You do not need to register or create an account to use this.  All you will need to do is follow the link to the meeting on your computer, or through the Zoom app on your mobile device.

You should also be able to disable video/audio if you want to just listen.
Here is the link:

There will just be a small software download the first time using the Zoom service.
And feel free to email if you have any questions:

Delivery of the Little Caesars pizza order has been delayed until mid-May.  It is anyone’s guess what the social distancing rules will be in May.  The deliver might need to be delayed further.  We will know more at the end of April.

Is still on!  Check the online calendar for details.  Guard Camp will be added before tryouts begin.
