NorthWood High School
Fall Trimester 2011
Mission:
NorthWood High School Instrumental Music is dedicated to educating
students through the performance of music. NorthWood High School Instrumental
Music will create a positive learning environment that encourages students
to be responsible to themselves and their peers. NorthWood High School
Instrumental Music will provide students the appropriate musical training
to continue their musical journey beyond high school. Through music,
students will learn self-discipline, high character and responsibility
in a supportive atmosphere.
Objectives:
• Develop musical independence
• To develop the personal and group character traits of leadership,
dignity, dependability and teamwork
• To serve and represent the school and community in public concerts,
parades, competitions and other functions with excellence
Class Goals:
• Focus on achievement not winning
• Create memories
• Create a student-centered style program through Band Cabinet
• 100% members pass PQes with 80% or better
• Improve upon 2010 Red Regiment (71.8)
Description:
Marching Band is one of the two main focuses of the school year. Students
will be challenged to learn and memorize music and positions on the
field. Students will participate in Saturday performances, home football
games and parades. Students will also attend after school practices
in addition to class rehearsals. Students should be in good physical
health as it requires much energy.
Assessment:
Assessment practices will include traditional paper/pencil, performance
and authentic. Traditional assessment includes the charting quiz. Performance
assessment includes all playing quizzes. Authentic assessment includes
playing quizzes and the portfolio project.
Classroom Rules:
1) Patience, good listening and a desire to excel will make for an outstanding
year.
2) Store everything in its proper location when not in use.
3) Properly care for all school and personal equipment.
4) No chewing gum.
5) Cell phones off and out of sight during school and after school rehearsals
and performances.
6) Zero tolerance for affectionate behavior.
7) Refrain from coarse language.
8) Wear appropriate and/or prescribed attire and footwear.
